How to Find Meaning in Life
This post on measuring meaning in life popped up in my feed this morning.
A couple things stuck out to me:
“People who believe their lives have meaning tend to be happier.” Not really a surprise, but it’s nice there are studies to support it.
“…a meaningful life requires comprehension (being able to make sense of your experience), significance (perceiving your life to be worthwhile), and purpose (having goals for your life that you deem valuable)”
“…relationships are a primary source of meaning”
“…awareness of the sources of meaning in your life is an effective way to increase your sense of meaning in life”
This seems corollary to the idea that smiling makes you happy. By meditating or journaling on our sources of meaning, we can effectively increase our sense of meaning and, in turn, our happiness.
Sounds like a good addition to my journaling practice.
