NHL Star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed by a drunk driver while riding their bicycles, the day before their sister’s wedding. Tragic.

As a hockey fan, this is terrible to see. He was a top player in his days with Calgary. Undersized for an NHL player, he undoubtedly inspired many smaller players with his skill and tenacity.

As a cyclist, this pisses me off. This is why I don’t ride on roads, with drivers that think you are just getting in their way. How dare a cyclist delay them a whole 30 seconds to get where they are going.

The way the media reports these types of incidents is inaccurate at best. Calling it a cycling accident” or a bike-car accident” (both of which I’ve seen today) is like calling a school shooting a classroom disruption”. Call it what it is, maybe one driver somewhere will realize these are unprotected human beings that are no match for their speeding hundreds of pounds of metal.

Just awful. RIP to two young men that should have graced us with their presence much longer.
